MUMBAI: Just a few days out from the second Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction on December 9, England’s prolific opener Danni Wyatt, who went unsold last year, served a timely reminder of her mettle when she struck 75 off just 47 balls to help England score a 38-run win over India at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday night.
The WPL auctionis scheduled to be held here on December 9, the same day as the second T20I.Having been disappointed at having no takers for her the last time around, Wyatt, who has scored 2,602 runs in 150 T20Is, with two centuries and 13 half-centuries, said she wasn’t thinking about the WPL auction while walking out to bat.

“Not while I was batting and not when I was walking out to bat. But it did cross my mind a few times in the morning when people spoke about it. I was pretty disappointed in the last auction. But I have completely changed my mind, so now I am just like… I have done all I can, had a good summer, performed tonight, so what will be, will be. I’d love to be a part of the next WPL, will see what happens,” she said.

The match also happened to be Wyatt’s landmark 150th T20I. The 32-year-old became only the third woman — after Harmanpreet Kaur and Suzie Bates, and the first English player to feature in 150 T20Is.
“It is always nice to do well on your big days. I try not to think too much about it being a big game for me. It is something I’ll look back on when I retire — how many games I’ve played in this format,” she said.

We could have fielded better, says spinner Shreyanka Patil
Meanwhile, debutant off-spinner Shreyanka Patil felt that India could have “varied the pace more” while bowling during their defeat on Wednesday.
“We could have varied the pace little more, the wicket was not that great for bowlers. It was completely in favour of the batters. I could’ve bowled better but bowling in the death overs is not easy at all,” said Patil, who took two for 44 in four overs on her T20I debut.
Having dropped a caught and bowled chance herself, and seen Pooja Vastrakar grass a sitter, Patil admitted that India could have certainly “fielded better,” though she promised that the hosts would bounce back in the second match at the Wankhede on Saturday.
“The wicket was amazing to bat on, it was not easy (to bowl), but I think we did a pretty decent job. We will have a discussion as to what can be improved. Fielding could have been better, but we will bounce back stronger,” the 21-year-old said.
The youngster revealed that “didn’t get any sleep” after being told that she would be getting her maiden India cap against England.
“I was very happy that I got the cap. I was a bit excited as well as nervous, I did not get any sleep but after one or two balls I was fine. I belong here,” she said.
